WHEN IS ENOUGH?

WHEN IS ENOUGH?

WHEN IS EHOUGH?

working so hard...
but never enough...
when will we be enough?

description

Connecting with the sensations of trying so hard but keep being refused, not accepted or included. Struggling between being truthful of your personal being and trying to blend-in for approval. Attempting to fit to be recognized and to feel part of something.. Those are common sensations which both Sara and Aika have been navigating recently, creating this piece in the hope to achieve some recognition, approval and a moment to be heard; dealing with personal conflits and achieving the final solution that we are not alone in this sensation and together we can find support and validation.

blend-in for approval?

Review

Sara Pizzi and Aika Takeshima of SarAika Movement Collective closed the evening with a powerful and athletic work entitled “When is Enough?” Matching in all black clothing, they moved in and out of each other’s weight with both vigor and care. Confrontational gestures, near collisions, fierce partnering, and unexpected moments of connection and embrace all mingled in this particularly energetic work–I wondered about rigorous tenderness and collaborative love.

_ucking obsessed with you guys. your partnering filled every void in me. fabuloussssss job. loved and throughly enjoyed the movement. you guys mold so perfectly together - and had such a good balance of push and pull as well i almost would like to see far yall can go on the push and pull to and from each other. love the moment with aika slowly doing gestures and sara pointing her finger to herself - so much in that moment and love it repeated from a diff angle with diff ending. need to see that piece again soon - xo

Wow! You two are such a great team and you talk to each other so well and make it look so easy. Powerful powerful intro. I think your strength lies in breaking up the flowing rolling lines with hyper punctuated lines and hit movements (like in the beginning)

I must say I am rarely impressed but This was AWESOME!!! Yall are so fierce and I loved the quality shifts and musicality and how i was constantly surprised by what came next. You both are aware of the use of space and stage and knew where to direct the audiences eye. It was awesome to see this indirect ninja spy competitive concept alongside really awesome choreography that felt intentional not just movement to be “impressive” . Excited to see more of what you two do in the future!!!
I loved the motif of pointing the finger in this piece. The intricate fast past movement was so intriguing that the contrast of a simple point towards the audience or the self was really effective. My favorite part was when the dancers were walking downstage on the diagonal and one person was doing fast hand movements and the others finger was slowly changing to point towards the self. Especially in a piece with lots of partner work and constant need of each others weight in doing that, the finger coming back to pointing to the self I felt was really powerful. By the way beautiful partner work and so fluid and smooth. Wonderful job!
Breaking the fourth wall and pointing to the audience into the scissoring section was really effective. YES YES YES
okay this was _ucking insane I loved every second of it and from the first note I knew it was going to be so fierce. your partnering was incredible and I loved how the tension built throughout the piece. I felt like when the one dancer walked towards the other with their finger pointed at them, it was like they were mouthing off at eachother and then by the end there was a full on fight going on. incredible arc and THE MOVEMENT WAS SO IMPRESSIVE.
Loved the elements of opposition and togetherness.... enjoyed the melding and melting of bodies together/apart throughout.Ninja. Matrix. Heads and hands visible. Liked the subtle moments among the circular motion. Many diagonals with the legs, lasers. Tension. Adored the opening, limp hand was powerful. Also compelled by the pointing when Aika is coming toward Sara and Sara's hand comes into herself.Love it

What a gorgeous display of athleticism and artistry. Jaw was on the FLOOR the whole time. The opening was so eye catching and I was invested the whole time in the story and dynamite energy and drive in y’all and the music. The moments of stillness and suspension were so evocative! I want to be in the evening length.
Really struck by the diagonal pathway with one dancer pointing and the the other dancer approaching/confronting with a gestural pattern. The combination of music and seamless/flowing floorwork brought me into a trance and matrix in time.
Loved the use of height differences in the work Intense Confrontational Range of motion for the performers was incredible- both technically and with the velocity they developed.
This is was very well choreographed. I will say this might be the best of the bunch so far. I’m no expert so I don’t have any feedback that’s worth while. Great job.
